One for the Higher Gods: Tequila.

Though alcohol is highly used and consumed all over the world, it is also a great conversation subject. One such conversation that can go into the night is the type of alcohol drinker a person is. The conversation was veer from what is the 'capacity' of a person, to what kind of a drinker a person is. Beer drinkers, sadly, automatically excuse themselves from such a conversation because beer is not considered a hard drink by many and sundry.

There are, of course, various kinds of drinkers who swear by the taste of various kinds of drinks. The whisky drinker will assure you that there's no other drink like whisky, the rum drinker will bring to your notice that it is actually a drink for the horses, and does indeed give a kick of a mule. The others, vodka and gin drinkers, will swear by the amount one can drink and shake their heads at the people who get boozed up with a couple of whisky drinks.

However, nobody will ever argue with you about one universal fact - Tequila is a drink of the higher Gods. The original lifestyle drink, the drink that brings back the life into the party, the drink that makes the greatest hole in the pocket - Tequila.

Like the drink itself, Tequila as a long history, dating back to around the sixteenth century. It is primarily made in the place called Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. It is made from the Blue Agave and the alcohol content ranges from thirty six to sixty percent.

There are five kinds of Tequila. They are:

  • the ultra aged, one aged for a minimum of three years.
  • The aged or vintage, aged for a minimum of a year.
  • The Blanco, or unaged spirit and
  • the Oro.

Tequila has a rich tradition and is quite different from other spirits. For one, the very way tequila is drunk is different from other types of alcohol. People gulp down the tequila at one go, and then bite on a lime. This is called a tequila shot. Like for beer and whisky, there are special kinds of tequila shot glasses. And the high that a single tequila shot gives is much higher than other alcoholic beverages.

Tequila is randomly used in popular media, and there is something different about the portrayal of tequila as compared to other alcohol.
