The Legend of Phantom: Caves of Engineering Marvel

Back when mutants were so futuristic that comic books shied away from them, the jungles and the wildlife was a great haven for creative superheroes. Of course, the writers had just to look at what Edgar Rice Burroughs had done with 'Tarzan', to be sure enough of creating a superhero of the Jungles.

This gave birth to 'The Phantom', a mysterious superhero with many firsts. Considering the number of firsts that were borne by Lee Falk for the Phantom, one can easily come to the conclusion that the Phantom was, in fact, the face of what was to become a staple characteristic of the superheroes of today.

For one, the Phantom is a masked crusader/crime fighter/new fashion developer, whose real identity was/is Jimmy Wells. The Phantom was originally a rich playboy (Bat Signal at all time high!/Spider Sense Tingling!) who fought crime by night. I sometimes wonder if all superheroes suffer from insomnia. I can't wake up the next day if I chat all through the night! Well, thats what superpowers consist of, I think... inhuman stamina.

Anyway, it as only later that the Phantom got some good Movers towards the Jungles. The Phantom is also one of the few superheros who has been played by different people of the same family. The Phantom has stayed in the Jimmy Well family for at least twenty one generations!

The Phantom was also one of the few original superheroes who had a mystical mysteriousness about them. There were many 'old jungle sayings' circling around the strength of the Phantom. One another name for the Phantom was 'The Ghost Who Walks' and 'The One Who Cannot Die'. Some trademarks of the Phantom were his skull shaped ring, which would be seen on any criminal who has had fisticuffs with the Phantom.

The color of Phantom's costume has also been matter of controversy, with the color changing between purple, grey and brown. When the Phantom was first made out, the creator had in mind the name 'Grey Ghost', but it never hit the real time.
