The Sims

How many of us have been irritated, got angry, frustrated, tired and finally blown our tops when our parents have told us that playing a game was a sheer waste of time? Ok.. playing a game for around ten hours may be something similar to wasting time, but hey, what's real life gotta offer better?

Well, anyway, if you guys and gals have been irritated by this, then here's the answer to 'What's a game gonna do to your life' question The Sims.

When the Sims first came out in the nineties, not many knew what to make of it. Here was a game wherein you had to create a character, and have him live his or her life. Basically, yes, you had to get them a house, look after his daily needs, get them a job, get them a social life and so on and so forth.

The Game Broke All Records Ever.

Never before had a non-violent game become so popular. Never before had a non-violent game got so many patches. Never before was there a Sims. Sims was different, Sims was cool, Sims was Sims. Sims was here.

One may safely say that the Sims was in fact a predecessor of Social Websites and chat sites like today's Second Life (sans the Adult parts), There, Active Worlds, and so on and so forth.

The game was so popular that it slowly started invading the Internet. Soon there were fan sites, mini sites, and of course, because the Sims offered Internet play, one character met another character and life carried on a new plane.

But one has to admit, Sims bloated itself somewhere down the line. With the number of patches and gameplay additions, it became a bit complicated to play by the time they reached 'The Sims Superstar'. I don't know whether I felt it because I wasn't on a higher end machine, but I felt that even if I had a good enough machine to play the Sims with all its patches, I'd leave it be because of it's complications.

Of course, Maxis heard us out and out it came with a brand new, spanking fresh the Sims 2, the complete 3D experience. This game was so cool, so good, so fresh and so easy, that I once again remembered the Sims + Livin' Large + House Party days where playing the Sims was a joy once more.

Get it. That's the only thing I can say.
