Hangovers are like bills, you get them when you just do not want them and once they are there, they are just there. Hangovers, scientific name veisalgia, are normally described as the after effects of a consumption of a lot of alcohol. There are of course, many reasons for a hangover. These reasons differ from person to person, just like their stamina for alcohol.
Just Why Does a Hangover Occur?
Hangovers occur due to many reasons. One of the basic causes of hangovers is the increase in urine production due to the dehydrating effect of Ethanol. Therefore, some of the common scenarios associated with hangovers are fatigue, dehydration, nausea, and in extreme cases diarrhea, vomiting and an increased body temperature. Another reason for hangovers is the breakup of ethanol by the liver enzymes into acetic acid.
Other Reasons for a Hangover
There is a common idea that a person has a hangover because he or she has drunk a lot, which is not the case many a times. Hangovers can be caused due to varied reasons. It depends from person to person. Some people may have a hangover because they have mixed their drinks, like vodka and whisky together, some people may have a hangover from a single drink because the ambience and atmosphere of the place was not good. Others may have a hangover because they did not eat anything with their drinks. The reasons are varied, and each one quite genuine.
So, how does one combat a hangover?
Like a common cold, nobody knows the exact reason why a hangover occurs. However, there are a few remedies that cure a hangover pretty soon. Of course, the best hangover curer is sleep. But one should make sure that they have a lot of water throughout the day. Another good idea to combat a hangover is to have a cold water bath and have some lime into the system. Some drink veterans swear by the morning drink as the best cure for hangover. What one can do is to have a small thirty ml drink in the morning. Even this is known as a surefire cure for hangovers.
